1) If it's not too personal to ask, how did you discover that you're a lesbian? And what was the coming-out process like?

I think I've know since I was...say, 14 or so? Coming out was a long, slow process - coming out to my parents didn't happen until I was well into my 20s, long after I had been a huge flaming homo in every other part of my life. Now, I don't beat people over the head with it ("Hi, nice to meet you! I'm Deb, and I'm a lezbo!") but if a new person asks me about my family I will tell them about CJ and our kids just as they would discuss their husbands or wives. I'm too lazy to play the pronoun game.

2) How do you like Portland? Are you from that area? What's some of your favorite places there?

I love Portland!! I'd love to play tour guide to anyone wanting to visit, too. There's Powell's of course, Bookstore Mecca, but there are so many other wonderful things! You can drive two hours and see desert, or ocean, or mountains, or wine country, or river; you can hike, windsurf, have great coffee and great microbrews, shop, people-watch....There's the Japanese Garden, the Rose Gardens, the Chinese Garden, Waterfront Park, Forest Park (over 5000 acres!), Mt. Tabor Park (an extinct volcano in city limits!)....

I'll shut up now. But if you come visit, we have crash space (if you're not allergic to cats or frightened by surly lesbians [CJ's not really surly, it's social anxiety disguised as surliness.])!

3) What's the best advice that you've never followed?

"You should've pushed her."

4) What book do you read over and over but never get tired of?

{embarrased voice}the Valdemar and Pern books{/embarrased voice} Hey, it's comfort reading!

5) What place have you always wanted to visit and never gotten to? What would you do there?

Oh, there are tons of places. New York City - I'd like to see Greenwich Village, mostly. The UK - to see all of the places in The Dark is Rising series, and to walk the path of the rabbits in Watership Down. I'd like to do a driving tour of the US and see all 50 states, using back-roads only whenever possible. Or at least drive Route 66.

I don't think I knew you were in the Portland area, if so I totally spaced it. Hi, I live in Vancouver. :)

Yay for localness! I knew you did because of the Lone Fir cemetery thing you posted; I think it's something Shannon would really enjoy so we may show up some Tuesday.

Oh you should. Every Tuesday from 6:30 till sundown (often 8-8:30). Not very many people show up, but it is still nice. Wait a few weeks though, then we will probobly get into headstone work, which is more exciting that invasive plant species removal. :)

If you do show up, I will most likely be there. I have long straight brown hair, my name is Vannessa. (usually another woman and guy with long curly hair, so I stand out a bit having straight hair)
