Jun. 2nd, 2003 01:37 pmMonth-end is done, at least the part other people need, so here's the weekend wrap-up.
Friday were the opening fireworks for Rose Festival - the biggest display in Portland. We made it down, and managed to get parked and down to the Eastbank, just in time! I forget sometimes that the Esplanade is done, and it's not just OUR spot anymore. Damn there were a zillion peoples!
Since I had bought earplugs, Shannon was able to enjoy the show this time instead of being freaked - we watch them really close, and you can feel every boom in your chest. CJ stood with me and held the Zinger's ear (the one that wasn't cradled on my chest) and he barely moved, even during the loudest volleys. The true test will be next year, of course, when he's 13-14 months and really able to appreciate them (or be terrified!). I hope he loves them as much as I do.
Saturday was the housewarming - the last real party I had was December 16, 2001; only three or four people showed, and I got a call from my dad that my mom had gone into a coma (she died a few days later). I was so worried that no one would come, but I was wrong. There were a lot of friends over from about 3-7 pm, so I didn't get to spend quality time, but it was nice to see everyone anyhow. From 7 to midnight was a much more laid-back crew, and we had a great time, even if I did lose the Karen-mom.
two_star, we don't care if you're a heterosexual man, you're more than welcome to join us, but you'll have to give me a phone number again so I can call when we're doing stuff. LJ is great but doesn't work well for spur-of-the-moment!
Sunday CJ badly needed to get OUT OF THE HOUSE, so we went garage sale-ing. Got two onsies, a bib, two big cotton baby blankets, and three diaper covers all for $3. Not bad. And then, BOOKS. We shouldn't have, but hey! At least two of them I know I can sell on eBay, so there. :P
I had a talk with Shannon again; explained why we think Bryant is such a "doofus" (her word, mine would be "dickhead" but I'm nicer than that to her face). No iniative and no gratitude make us something something!! She does see it. Also let her know that not talking to CJ hurts her feelings, and let CJ know that she can be really intimidating. Which leads to "no one loves me" and "you're on THEIR side" which makes me want to just strangle CJ, but I love her anyway. And try to convince her that yes we do and no I'm not, but you're STILL intimidating!
I may have gotten really carried away with pronoun-name association there.
And that is that. Coming up - Rose Festival some evening, especially since it's supposed to be lovely all week; Gay Pride on 6/15; Peacock on 6/29. w00t!
