Steve Duin of the Oregonian runs a book reading contest, keeping track of the pages read during the year. The prize is, of course, a gift certificate from Powell's. I'm starting it here, then will put it in memories so I can add to it throughout the year.

His rules - no more than 15 books by any one author. That's it.

The Malloreon, David Eddings, 1989 pgs. (5 books: Guardians of the West, King of the Murgos, Demon Lord of Karanda Sorceress of Darshiva, The Seeress of Kell)
The Belgariad, David Eddings, 1388 pgs. (5 books: Pawn of Prophecy, Queen of Sorcery, Magician's Gambit, Castle of Wizardry, Enchanter's End Game. )
Sisters of the Road, Barbara Wilson, 202 pgs.
Carol for Another Christmas, Elizabeth Ann Scarborough, 200 pgs.
Out of the Dust, Karen Hesse, 227 pgs.
Cat's Cradle Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., 191 pgs.
Becoming a Man: Half a Life Story, Paul Monette, 278 pgs.
Jack and Jill, Louisa May Alcott, 313 pgs.
Having Our Say ~ The Delany Sisters' First 100 Years, Sarah and A. Elizabeth Delany with Amy Hill Hearth, 210 pgs.
Big Trouble, Dave Barry, 317 pgs.
Left Behind, Tim LaHaye & Jerry B. Jenkins, 468 pgs.
Lolita, Vladimir Nabokov, 287 pgs.
Fugitives and Refugees: A Walk in Portland, Oregon, Chuck Palahnuik, 175 pgs.
Angela's Ashes, Frank McCourt, 381 pgs.
The Witch's Daughter, Nina Bawden, 181 pgs.
I Leap Over the Wall, Monica Baldwin, 237 pgs.
Gypsy and the Moonstone Stallion, Sharon Wagner, 211 pgs.
Man in Black, Johnny Cash, 244 pgs.
The Making of the African Queen, Katherine Hepburn, 129 pgs.
Pay It Forward, Catherine Ryan Hyde, 288 pgs.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, JK Rowling, 870 pgs.
Reaper Man, Terry Pratchett, 253 pgs.
Mindhunter, John Douglas, 375 pgs.
Coming Out Conservative, Marvin Liebman, 267 pgs
P.S. Your Cat is Dead!, James Kirkwood, 223 pgs.
The Kin of Ata Are Waiting For You, Dorothy Bryant, 220 pgs.
Daddy-Long-Legs, Jean Webster, 246 pgs.
Kate's Book, Mary Francis Shura, 204 pgs.
Belonging, Virginia M. Scott, 142 pgs.
Queer Corners, Donald Olsen, 332 pgs.

For a grand total of 11,408 pages read during 2003. What I'm especially proud of is that this list includes only ONE re-read (even if it is 10 books). And the page count is actually higher, but I'm not including books I started this year but haven't finished yet (of which there are about 5).
