OMG! So, I have been doing my best to go swimming at least twice a week, although I'm going for five days. I really really hate the lack of meditative ability I have, though; even swimming makes my mind wander terribly. Since my birthday is coming up, CJ got me a waterproof mp3 player! It's so totally cool!

Except, none of my music files are mp3 format. Does anyone know a good FREE or inexpensive way I can change them?

yay you! That's the best! I'm a total music slut and it makes it much easier to get going with music in my ear. I will ask the people at my co-op. Someone may know how to do that (we have a couple of tech geeks) I'll ask them tonight.

you're a sweetie. I got one, though - even if to keep it free I can only switch 2 songs at a time! *laughs* I also found some very cool history podcasts which run 29 minutes, so I can LEARN while I swim. I'm way excited about that.

Did the MP3 player come with any software, like a cd in the package, or instructions on a website from which to download it?

A lot of MP3 players come with software that allows you to rip CDs into MP3s. The software is often bare bones, but it does the trick.

If not, there are many programs around to let you do it. I don't know them as well as some people (since my Creative Zen player came with pretty good software), but I'm sure someone can recommend good ones.

I found a pretty good one, although it does only do two songs at a time since I won't pay for it :) The software it came with is less than intuitive, although I did figure it out, and the manual is, um...well, not terribly readable. Thank you though!!

What format are your music files?

I know how to convert WMA files to MP3 with iTunes and I'm pretty sure that AAC (iTunes format) can also be converted to MP3 in iTunes, though I'd have to try that to see if it works.

yeah, it's totally willing to convert AAC files into mp3s in itunes. You just have to set your default format to mp3, and it will offer to convert anything (even MP3s, actually) into it.
