Jul. 16th, 2007 09:21 amI saw OotP this weekend, and overall I was pretty pleased. I'd've liked more, of course, but there's only so much can be done and I figure everything important is covered since JKR is overseeing it. In fact, I get as many clues for this Friday from the movies as the books!
What I was NOT pleased about - horrified would be more correct - was the trailer for The Dark is Rising. I could cut it...but you should know, if you love it like I do.
Will IS NOT FUCKING AMERICAN. He is NOT an angsty, maladjusted modern american teenager. That is NOT Merriman. I don't know what the hell you people think you're doing with my books, but this is just not right.
The special effects look cool. That is all.

Date: 2007-07-16 06:22 pm (UTC)You know, it's one thing when the hollywood studios take real history and adjust it to make the US the be all and end all (see U-571 in particular) when others were actually the heroes, but don't mess with my fiction!!
Let me guess, the overarching Arthurian themes will be adjusted to reflect birth of democracy in the US or some other such tripe. Grrrr

Date: 2007-07-17 03:45 am (UTC)Ian McShane, on having read the book: "I know they sold a few copies, but I couldn't read it very well. It's really dense. It's from the 70s, you know?" (I'm sorry— This is quickly becoming a classic quote. Thirty years from now, when they are doing the fourth remake of the Harry Potter series, one of the actors is going to say, "I couldn't read them very well. They're really dense. They're from the turn of the century, you know?" Let's hope McShane was misquoted.)
Ian McShane, on future job prospects as Merriman: "No, I never heard of them. I did try to read the book, but they were a little...I think...I don't know how...There's four of them apparently. Or five. Oh, god. That means I might have to do a sequel."

Date: 2007-07-16 09:38 pm (UTC)I mean. In addition to screwing up Will, apparently they've also ripped out the whole Arthurian and pagan thing according to the rumors I've heard. T___T

Date: 2007-07-17 06:12 pm (UTC)*cries**sobs*I didn't even finish watching the trailer. I am the sad. :( These books trump Potter in just about every way that matters, and all they can do is make it into a story about some American kid who has nifty powers. Also, WHY DIDN'T THEY CAST IAN MCKELLEN AS MERRIMAN OMGWTF. *froths*
(Oh, also, I came across your journal randomly from the lolscience friends page. Hi. :)
