1. Memoirs of a Geisha, Arthur Golden, 434 pages.
2. The Folk Keeper, Franny Billingsley, 162 pages. YA.

Corinna is a Folk Keeper. Her job is to keep the mysterious Folk who live beneath the ground at bay. But Corinna has a secret that even she doesn't fully comprehend, until she agrees to serve as Folk Keeper at Marblehaugh Park, a wealthy family's seaside manor. There her hidden powers burst into full force, and Corinna's life changes forever...

Sweet, a little dark, and not all that intricate or surprising a plot twist, actually - sorry, Horn Book Magazine. Into the Powell's pile with you, lovely little book.

I know you did! In my first book post, this is what I said: I'm probably the only woman in America who hasn't read this book by now. I haven't seen the movie, either. I know you're horrified, [livejournal.com profile] pygmymetal. That said...I found the book very pretty, and the parts about the day-to-day life of the geisha, fascinating, and the romance kind of meh. I actually really felt very sorry for Nobu-san, and that the build-up was much more drawn-out and painful than necessary.
