Yay, first book post and January isn't done!

1. Memoirs of a Geisha, Arthur Golden, 434 pages.

I'm probably the only woman in America who hasn't read this book by now. I haven't seen the movie, either. I know you're horrified, [livejournal.com profile] pygmymetal. That said...I found the book very pretty, and the parts about the day-to-day life of the geisha, fascinating, and the romance kind of meh. I actually really felt very sorry for Nobu-san, and that the build-up was much more drawn-out and painful than necessary.

No worries. I haven't read it yet, though I've had a copy on my shelves for nearly a year.

This one sat on my shelf for at least two before I finally got to it.

Oh, well, I have plenty of time, then! =)

Now that you're done, can you send it on over?

I haven't read it either, and I'm female.

And once I finish, all the women in America will have read it... ;)

I have neither read the book nor seen the movie, and I expect this trend to continue.

*checks sex* Yep, I'm still a woman. The Throes tell me so. :P

I am right there with Amanda, including the Throes. :p

My sympathy on the Throes component! I don't really regret not reading the novel or seeing the movie, though. :)

My sympathy to you both on the throes as well; I've had a jeweled spork sort of week myself. And the no nicotine didn't help; I was a complete bitch on Monday.

i really enjoyed the book. i think the 2 best points for me were the imagery and the fact that it was written by a man. i am always impressed when i person can write from a perspective not their own, and still pull it off beautifully.

The imagery was truly stunning...it was just the romance that brought it down for me.

I haven't read the book, and I don't feel any great urge to read it, so you're definitely not the only one. My sister and I went to see the movie last winter when we were in Florida together, and I enjoyed it, but I can't say I'm likely to read the book any time soon.

I think I'd watch the movie now just to see how different it is from the book.
