My yearly rant on the word: it's ridiculous, people! Based on the word ridicule, which is what I'm going to do to you when you spell it rediculous.

Gah. I don't understand why this one spelling error bothers me so much!

I am still sick. I have not gotten any better since last Friday, I'm just as stuffy and tired, and I think feverish. What I want is to sleep another weekend away, but I don't want to be sick any more!

I get cranky when I see the letter 'a' misused -- 'definate', 'existance', etc..

I had a giggling fit a couple of weeks ago when I saw someone use 'enimity'. I had to squelch the urge to congratulate them on the correct usage and suggest they spellcheck next time.

I finally finally finally figured out my trick for spelling decision correctly--I always try to spell it desicion first, but I was writing a sentence that was something like, "I decided to base our decision on X" and suddenly actually *realized* they were the same word. And so now when I stall on the word, I can at least back up and remember what I should be saying.

who and whom

My trigger is who and whom. People who use who when they should be using whom bother me because they don't know how to speak. People who use whom they they should be using who bother me even more because they can't speak but are trying to look smart.

It took studying Latin for me to figure out when to use "who" and when to use "whom," and I probably still screw it up sometimes.

If we spelled it "reticulous," we could carry jokes in it.
