Oct. 10th, 2004 11:15 pmThat was a lovely get-away; even the crabby parts were okay because they made us talk to each other. Vernonia is a sweet little small town that could considered a bedroom community to Hillsboro and the tech corridor ~ 2000 or so people, it took me just a few minutes to read their entire month's crime reports. I could get used to that. And nobody looked at us twice for being "together," which was unexpected and very nice.
Plus there were kittens everywhere who tried to follow us home. We resisted, but it was close. Even harder to resist was the black lab mix puppy who tried to chew CJ's fingers off.
The weather cooperated on Thursday and was blue and lovely ~ gorgeous fall weather. Friday it rained so hard driving back from the ocean to Vernonia that I could barely see the road. We went to Cannon Beach because I had never been, and CJ had been so long ago that it doesn't count anymore. It's very pretty, but in an "every building must look the same" way. Plus, faaaaaaar to expensive for my tastes and bank book. We also explored Clatskanie, which, granted, didn't take very long. We discovered a good restaurant, though, and a place to go when we want to try canoe-ing. Very calm canal-like waters. With otters! And a zen monastary a few miles out of town.
Along with otters, we saw elk - a lot of elk! - a coyote, deer, horses, and many cows and llamas.
Rested and played in the sun today, did our Halloween decorating, and put more stuff up on eBay, this time a few lots of trinket boxes, some vintage Pyrex, and a really cool bar art Tiger.
And now it's time for bed!!
