Crazy from the Fair
Sep. 6th, 2004 11:11 amI'm at work on Labor Day because I wanted a few hours of uninterrupted time to actually re-work the Symposium spreadsheets. This registration system MUST be changed for the next one in February or I will cry heads will roll. So have I gotten uninterrupted time? Sort of, except for the phone calls. The hospitals aren't closed today!
Saturday we spend the entire freaking day at the Oregon State Fair - went down with Brandy and Bekah. Got there around noon (a little side trip to Champoeg State Park) and left when the Fair closed at 11. I think we still didn't see everything. There were too many Bush signs (I especially was amused that the Republican booth was in the As Seen On TV building. Empty promises! Get 'em while they're hot! It'll stop working as soon as you get it home!), but we did get to see yurts, great artwork and photography, horses that had to be 20 hands at the rump, a bloodhound, some gorgeous needlework, the 300-feet-up ride, and we ate fair food. Not as much as we thought, when we added it up, but enough. I also rode the Fairlift and didn't scream and managed to open my eyes for most of the ride. Got a cramp in my hand, though. Like holding on to the metal bar would help if the seat went out. Next time I want to take pictures from the air, after the sun goes down. Pretty.
The Cure was fantastic, with an amazing light show. The drive was good, made it home by 3 am and worked fine the next day. Almost blew the car up - when the car says tick tick tick tick tick it means it has no oil and you should stop RIGHT AWAY, not 100 miles down the road. Amazingly enough, it was fine after 4 quarts of oil. Lucky me!

Date: 2004-09-06 10:02 pm (UTC)I would really miss the farm stuff. Goats and sheep and cows and pigs...and draft horses, and dog agility exhibits! Come to Oregon some summer and I'll find you a fair, even if it's a county one.
