Happy 5th!

I talked Agent P into letting me come in late today, since all of one team (including Agent K) are off and part of the other team is. The place is nearly deserted, only about half staff. So I slept until 9, and made it in by 10. Tan (well, peeling), rested and ready.

We all missed Lake O this year, I think, but had a wonderful 4th anyhow. BBQ at [livejournal.com profile] alphaskye and [livejournal.com profile] frisia's, a very nice time of food and explosions, then downtown to watch the big ones at the waterfront. 9.30 is the Zing's bedtime, but he woke up when we got out of the car and didn't even flinch at the fireworks - smiled and clapped a few times even. A boy after my own heart! After dropping the boy and mom at home, we went back over to Skye & Kelly's and blew up a lot more stuff. Sorry, neighbors! But it was very fun!!

Zing got his first bee sting the other day - it went nicely with his scraped up knees, bumped toes, and all-over toddler tan, although he was quite offended. But why do people insist we should cut off his lovely curls?? They'd probably be upset if they knew his usual daily diet includes a large helping of white clover flowers and dirt, too.

CJ & I are going CAMPING from Saturday to Tuesday - Agents P & K said that I could take two days off and we just wouldn't mention it when it came time to determine PTO (since I technically can't take time off until October). They must like me! Ah, Lake Merrill, I hope we find you open and available, for the first time in years!

Back to work. Really.

Wow. Sounds like the zinger has grown up a lot since the last time I saw him.

They change a huge amount in a short time - and even more in a year.

I missed your birthday, so I won't say Happy Birthday. I will say that I hope with all my heart that THIS will be a breakthrough year for you.

Thank you.

I just don't see it though.

Zinger sounds like he's quite the mobile kidlet now.

[livejournal.com profile] oxymoron02's son had lovely hair when he was little and was complimented on it so many times he replied to people asking his name as "I'm not a girl!".

He is tremendously mobile - a little 15-month-old spitfire. Not yet verbal, much; we can hear "gramma" and "nana" although many wouldn't. He can sign for food, milk, and wet, though.

We are passing on the bottles you sent (for which we were so very grateful!) - he has easily graduated to sippy cups.

Watch for a new Zinger icon showing off the curly hair, coming soon. It's not even down to his shoulders, so I don't think we need to cut it yet!

Sounds like fun. The Elder had gorgeous ringlets and a steady diet of outside materials as a little one, too. ;)

When we filled out Shannon's most recent WIC paperwork, we declined to answer the "does your baby eat dirt" question. I'm sure that that isn't on the approved list.

Man, what child, especially a boy child, doesn't eat dirt? Only ones raised in a completely antiseptic environment, which isn't good for 'em anyways. :P

That's kind of what we think too :D Hence he is usually mostly naked, goes pretty much where he wants in the back yard (although the patio is off-limits because the hot thing (bbq) is there) and stubs his toes, skins his knees, eats dirt, clover and charcoal bits.

A little dirt is healthy!

As is the chance to actually explore your environment with all your senses. :) I've never quite gotten the completely safe thing. It raises children who don't understand danger or the world around them.

Clover is actually very good for you!

It's been his favorite thing in the world since he was big enough to scootch his blanket down and reach the grass.

Hell, I eat clover blossoms. Also violets, chickweed, dandelions... edible flowers are the best thing ever!

Mmm....rose petals, too! I love rose petals. And nasturtiums! Great addition to salads for color and peppery flavor.
