I know I need a job, but what if I get offered one that I know I'll hate? I did a first interview today, and a second tomorrow, for a job I could do blindfolded but will just hate doing, and it's a 17 mile commute again, instead of downtown. If I don't take it, do I ruin my benefits? What if I don't get offered anything else? This market is terrible. Gah.

You can end up voiding your unemployment benefits if you don't take a 'suitable position which has been offered to you', but danged if I can figure out their definition of suitable. If its 17 miles, that might get you off the hook but I'd be safe & check.

Definitely check on the 17 miles - over here (UK) the magic figure seems to be 50 miles (!)

I would tentatively say no, don't take it... but... I'm not sure that is the right advice. Gack!

Don't take a job you think would suck. Try to find a reason not to. If you take the job and then leave later because it sucks you'll lose your benefits anyway.
